In a rocky massif north west of Seoul is Mount Sorak, one of South Korea's national parks. This mountain, climbed ofr the fiirst time in 1400 during the japanese occupation, became the refuge of many Buddhists, place of cultivation of Ging-sen roots, in recent years Mount Sorak has become a popular well-equipped winter sports resort.
