On 9/27/1859, Giuseppe leaves the pastures in the mountains where he spent the summer with his flick. The animals go dwn to the valley and, once the field work has been completed, Giuseppe says farewell to his pregnant wife and leaves his cottage in Savoie with a pannier on this back and a loaded mule. The story of this pedlar begins. He spends the winter travelling in northern Italy with his wares, while the war is beeing fought between French-Piedmont and Austria. When he returns home Savoy has become French.
