The Tonga islands, or friendly islands in the southern Pacific, have always been ruled by a King, since they were discovered in 1616, and the Tonga Kingdom gained independence within the Commonwealth in 1970. This kingdom includes 169 islands covering an area of about 700 sq km, but only 35 of them are inhabited and there are only a hundred thousand inhabitants. The documentary is about some aspects of life in Tonga, already touched by tourism despite its extreme isolation.
