The documents on the preparation of one of the most important maine expeditions during the last century come from the archives of the Smithsonian Institute. Between 1838 and 1842, in fact, Charles Wilkes took four years to sail around the South Seas to explore unknown areas. Using the documents the film narrates what was done to achieve this expedition.
