During the twenties an epedemic swept through Australia destroying the cacti. Various attempt were made to wipe out the disesase. 60 different types of insects were studied and one species, the cactoplasts, was selected. These are insects that feed on the cacti and sometimes grow to the size of a pigeon. The various stages in the development of these insects are shown using the frame by frame technique.
