The search of the Yeti is also a pretext for exploring the remote areas of Tibet. The expedition is led by Chris Bonington, the famous British alpinist, who follows the experiences of previous researches, whose efforts were in vain. The evidence found, including some by Reinhold Messner, turned out to be curious and interesting.

The first American expedition to Everest was led by the Swiss climber Norman Dyhrenfurth, who selected a team of 19 mountaineers and scientists from throughout the United States and 37 Sherpas. The purpose was twofold: to reach the summit and to carry out scientific research programs in physiology, psychology, glaciology, and meteorology.
