The film illustrates the artistic and architectural beauties of the Tengboche monastery at the foot of Everest. The sactuary is not only a place of worship and prayer but also a living museum of the Tebetan Buddhist monastic life destroyed by the Chinese during the occupation of Tibet. The monastery, rebuilt after this film was made, was destroyed by a fire. To bring the monastery back to life the reincarnated Lama asked Sir Edmund Hillary, first conqueror of the Everest, for his help in the foundation of a new secular and religious school.
