Numerous charges and prohibitions issued since the 16th century by the Diocesan Synods, the Prince Bishop and later by various civil and religious authorities, have contributed in uprooting, almost completely, the Trato Marzo, a pre-Christian festivity that was once widespread in the Trentino territory. Trato Marzo is a new year celebration linking the reawakening of nature to the manifestations of Eros among men, with irony that is ofte coarse and irreverent. The film presents the results of research on five varieties of the Trato Marzo celebrated in Trentino along traditional lines: Cinte Tesino, Daone, Castello Tesino, Grumes, Pinzolo.
