Pierre is anengineers who turns back home to Durance in Briancon. Instead of a large factory the region is a big winter sports resort now. Also he can not recognize the mayor's daughter, the girl he once loved. Pierre is a mountaineer, that is why the place thrills him. His mountains have been destroyed.
