In the far north of Pakistan, the Hunza Valley extends for 60 km. In this region less rain falls than in the Sahara. Yet the vegetation is luxuriant because the water runs down the mountains into the village. It irrigates the fields of potatoes, wheat maize... The source of it is the glaciers. For over a 1000 years man has controlled the water.
The poorest peasants climb to over 3000 metres to get blocks of ice and bring them back into the village where it gets transported to a town.
