Tree felling and carrying the lumber down to the valley is an ancient skill handed down from father to son for generations. The Bapsts are farmers and carters who work with their father and live in La Roche in the Fribourg Canton. In the autumn and winter the Bast brothers, who have acquired wood from the village administartion, cut it and carry it on their seldge drawn by horses. In order to take the lumber down, a thick layer of snow is necessary and it must be particularly cold. The film faithfully follows the work of the three brothers.
