There are very few areas left that have not been reached by the western culture but in the Kulu valley in northern India near the borders with Tibet, many ancient customs are still in use. The houses are like those of the mountain people in the alps amd so is the way of living of the people who, however, have a much lower standard of living. Survival depends chiefly on the work carried out in the fields with primitive methods and tools. Looking after the children, religious ceremonies, migration towards more temperate climates and various aspects of the people's ife combine to make a complete ethnological picture.
