The mountains are not just a series of rock walls, precipes, peaks to conuer and footholds to discover and test for those who practise climbing. The mountains are part of a whole series of difficulties that have to be solved day by day throughout life. At times the greatest difficulties and the strongest emotions are produced by these problems. The eperience of climbing in different conditions is bound to be mingled with one's thoughts, feelings and worries. The mountain walls and life in general alternate like a surrealist metaphor emphasizing that a climber is also a person who can fall in love, marry and have children, has done military service, works and must accept the various ups and downs of life like any other man.
