Climbing the Diamir side of Nanga Parbat in alpine style, without porters, is already an exploit: carrying skis instead of a tent is close to madness. Having reached the summit of one of the most difficult eight thousand metre mountains to then ski down a wall with an extreme skiing gradient is perhaps pure folly. This is what Hans Kammerlander and Diego Wellig did with the help of a cameraman in 1990. Nevertheless they did not set themselves up as heroes at the limit of the impossible, on the conrtary they adopted a certain self-ironic understatement typical of the new philosophy of alpinism.
