The film shows the gathering of highland villagers, from remote hamlets high in the Andes Mountains, with the people from the raodside village of Ocongate to celebrate a state holiday.
Popular tradition requires that a condor is captured on the mountain and pitted against a bull in the town plaza. The interest of the Peruvian state are articulated by the grandiose speeches of the Mayor and the local authorities, but the burden of actually capturing the condor and bringing the bulls into the town depends upon the people who practise magic in connection with the animate landscape.
