This is the story of a paraplegic canoeist and a group of Eskimos who try to cross thedangerous Bering Straits in traditional boats made of skins. They are the first people to pass the "iron curtain" after 40 years of cold war. The film briefly describes the story of the Eskimos who, in 1948, when the Berings Straits were closed found themseves divided between two continent: Asia and north America. Entire families used to spending time on both islands, Big Diomede and Small Diomede, were separeted. The film also deals with the personal story of Jim Noyes, who after a road accident in which he broke his spine, find a new reason for living in sport and sharing his experience with people far from his own home.
