The documentary covers a six- day ski rally in the French and Italian Alps in March 1990. Skiers from more than ten european countries compete in teams of five in two categories, professional and amateur. The rally does not only consist of downhill skiing, but also path finding, climbing and endurance runs. Every evening the partecipants are given the destination for the following day. Every day skiers cross a variety of terrains: sometimes they have to ascend a mountain with seal skins, sometimes they must take off their skis and use crampons to climb. The race combines the characteristics of adventure and competition, of individual and gruop effort.
