How lovely, yet how frightening is the mountain with its obstacles, its peaks and its mantle of snow. No form of life seems to animate it except for the illusory one of shadows and reflections, snowstorms and howling winds. For six months the cold freezes the blood and breaks the rocks. What mithical being can compete with this environment in winter? From Caucasus to Pyrenees, across the Alps, the chaomois obstinatly free, has always survived. The film describes the behaviour of the chamois in its natural environment. It is an animal full of vitality and physical prowess and it has a strong appealing character.
