Arnold Golay is a 91-year-old former watchmaker, who lives aLe SEntierin the Vallée de Joux. During his apprenticeship he learned how to make an entire watch by hand. This know-how has always stood him i good stead. He can do everything , working as well with wood as with metal. Since his retirement, Arnold Golayhas become a full-time toy manufacturer. In the days when he was a watchmaker he used to make toys for his own children. As in previous films on "Le métiers du bois" (Wood Handcrafts) we watch him -with a faint thrill- making a hand-cart. Noldy starts with the raw wood, finally producing the finished article. We also see his collection of toys,which are scalemodelsof all the carts, wheelbarrows and other implements used in the farm before the invention of the tractor.
