There has always been procession in the mountains. The climb, and summit are symbols of a spiritual walk in the religious traditions of mountain communities. The whole population of Lys valley goes on a pilgrimage to the sanctuary of the Madonna of Oropa: a twelve-hour walk in which prayer and fatigue, road and mountain, unite the village people.
