The Chechen Abdul-Murat who hopes to exchange them with the enemy captures two Russian army soldiers, the lieutenant Sasha and the young Vanja, in a Caucasus mountain village. In a word that aligns love and hate, revenge and dead souls, smiles and tears, feelings finally take an unusual turn. Reason overcomes despair. The characters in the film return to their lives without any illusions or capitulations. It’s not possible to share with one’s enemies. But war is no longer a reason for living.
