The film portrays the attempt of a group of alpinists and expert yachtsmen of the high seas to cover 500 sea miles in the extreme north. They travel southwards from Spitzbergen in the Svalbard archipelago. We meet the people involved and hear their impressions, but the question posed concerns the validity of this extreme form of individual tourism in difficult regions the balance of nature is very unstable.
