The Stelvio National Park is a marvellous world of glacier, rivers and woods, inhabited not just by Alpine peoples but also by numerous creatures great and small from the eagle to the marmot. A group of hikers studied and trained for the difficulties of mountain-climbing as well as of orienteering in the heart of thick woods. At the same time they learned to appreciate and protect these riches which belong to humankind and where even the smallest lichen can recount the history of thousands of years.
