The Alpine profession in Trentino is disciplined by a provincial law which governs the standards to be adopted in the selection and training of these mountain experts. The candidates are selected first of all on the basis of their personal curriculum and a number of practical tests. They are then admitted to a training course at the end of which they are qualified as an "Aspirant Alpine Guide". They will become fully qualified Alpine Guides only after another three years of training, exams and tests of various kinds.
