The bag-pipe is a popular instrument used, especially by shepherds, in many countries including Italy. In Bulgaria the instrument has some special features: the bag is always made with a sheep or goat's skin and one of the pipes is longer to help the compression of air. This short documentary shows the Bulgarian bag-pipes (called "gaida") being made by artisans and their current use during popular festivities and gatherings in the Rhodope mountains, the country's highest chain with peaks of almost three thousans metres, in south west Bulgaria on the borders with Greece. The folklore events provide an ideal and timely setting for portraying the oldest instruments of Bulgarian mountains.
