Twenty years after the gold rush in 1849, Daniel Dillon, a voluntary pioneer without scruples, has managed to accumulate a considerable amount of wealth. He has become the master of Kingdom Come, a small town secluded in the mountains, and owns everything: the bank, the hotel and of course the gold mine, without forgetting the favours of the queen of the local brothel, the lovely Lucia. Ambition and greed have made him successful, but the tables are turned when three strangers arrive in the town: a draughtsman who has come to set up the railway and two women who have apparently known Dillon for a long time. In the moment when he seems to have everything going for him, the past rears up.
