The film illustrates six environmental problems, in as many episodes, concerning some Alpine areas in Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France. These short documentaries deal with the following subjects: the progressive shrinking of the glaciers caused by changes in climate, the protests that have accompanied the reopening of the Mont Blanc tunnel to articulated lorries, the steady depopulation of Cuneo Valley in Italy, the importance of "grooming" the mountain woodlands in Austria and the absurdity of heliskiing in Switzerland. Mountains are extremely delicate ecosystems. They are of fundamental importance as sources of water and energy, as habitats for a great number of animal and plant species, as leisure and holiday resorts and centres of cultural heritage. Unfortunately, the "mountain" environment is at risk throughout the world.
