For centuries mountain farmers have struggled to survive in a difficult and inhospitable land. At a time when only three things were plentiful, water, snow and rocks, one had to work hard to cultivate the poor soil. In the middle of the 20th century, in a few mountain farmsteads, where tourism had never set foot, you could still find a world that had already disappeared elsewhere long ago. On the farms without electricity and approach roads, there were men who were often so poor they had to plough the land alone. This documentary reconstructs, with historical images, the ancestral life of the farmers, before tourism catapulted many mountain valleys from poverty to wealth in a matter of a few decades.v
