A journey in the mountains of Perù following the life of the mountain porters. The narration, by an anonymous porter, is a meditation voiced aloud, terse and subdued. While accompanyng the foreigners across the mountains and jungle, the porter’s mind wanders beyond any thought of material gain. His point of view resists the pressures of the brutal world in which he lives and gives way to intimate and intense revelations. His words evoke the ageless longing for justice and redemption of these people; his voice bears no trace of hate, but emphasizes the distrust and ambivalence between the desire for a better life and the acceptance of a world that will never be fair.
