This is the story of a Portuguese climber who has climbed 9 “eight-thousands” to date and is going to climb them all by 2010. Pakistan 2007, at the foot of the 8,611 metres of K2, the climber Joao Garcia attempted the ascent of his ninth “Eight-thousand”. The documentary follows him on his different ascents of the Himalayan “giants”: Cho Oyu, Daulaghiri, Everest, Gasherbrum 1 and 2, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, and Shishapangma. Watching the documentary, Garcia re-lives the magic moments he experienced alone and those he shared with his expedition mates on these peaks. He also recalls the worst situations that deeply affected him, such as a forced bivouac at 8,500 metres on Everest in 1999. Joào Garcia gives a unique and moving account of a man who has devoted his life to the ascent of the Earth’s 14 giants: the “eight-thousands”.
