Renate, Ferdinand and Peter are siblings brought up in a small mountain farm in the Austrian Alps. Renate and Ferdinand still live in the mountain farm, whereas Peter, the eldest of the two brothers has moved and lives in a near-by valley. Of the three children, he is the only one who is engaged with a woman and has a social life, separate from his work. Renate and Ferdinand find it more and more difficult to live their lonely life, which means renouncing love and the chance to have a family, but still they would not consider leaving their mountain farm. The film, through Ferdinand’s melancholic view, investigates the theme of the difficult survival of these mountain farms, but above all, it examines the imbalance between two deeply different and contrasting worlds, which often create a deep gap, made of solitude and incommunicability.
