The Udmurts call Easter Budzym Nal – the Great Day. On the Monday following it people of the Karamas Pelga, village located in the south of Udmurtia, cook a special meal: the ritual Kasha. They call it Akashka Dzhuk – the Kasha of the Plough, or Spring Kasha. The whole village gets involved. Teenagers collect foodstuffs. The elders accompany them, singing songs. The spring kasha symbolizes the harvest coming and bringing happiness for a whole year. The villagers have believed so since a long time ago, and each and every one of them wants to get a bite.
