The story centres on the life of the indigenous population in the village of Bakhtia, situated on the banks of the River Yenisei in the heart of the Siberian Taiga. There are only two ways to get to the place: by helicopter or by boat. Here, in the midst of this desolate land, there are no telephones available, no running water and no medical assistance. The documentary follows the life of the protagonists in the village for the duration of one year. Their daily routine has remained virtually unchanged over the course of the last centuries: they continue to live and hunt according to their ancient traditions.
