This is the story of the south face of Lhotse told through the eyes of Jerzy Kukuczka, the Polish mountaineer who lost his life there in 1989. Its 3,000-plus metres make it one of the longest and most arduous climbs in the Himalayas, a mountain that Reinhold Messner defined “The problem of the twenty-first century”. In addition to the story behind this mountain, the film affords an insight into Kukuczka’s thoughts on the Himalayas, his goals and his life philosophy.
