December 1991, a political decision closed half of the historic Tua train line, between Bragança and Mirandela. This decision interrupted the economic development of inland mountainous areas in Portugal, considerably increasing the gap with the coastal area. Fifteen years later, the whistle of the train only resounds in the memories of the mountain dwellers. The villages are almost deserted and the lack of jobs leads young people to emigrate abroad, while the other half of the railway line which stayed open is now menaced by the construction of a dam. A journey across a forgotten Portugal, with a people who are a victim of promises which have not been kept.
