Compared with the astonishing progress of pharmacology, popular medicine would seem to be relatively unimportant, and yet an increasing number of people are seeking alternative remedies. Over and beyond the natural products business, there are real people who are well versed in the secrets of popular medicine, people who are careful about what they eat and make the most of their vegetable garden, people who know and feel the nature that surrounds them, in a similar way to the natives living in African forests, people who reflect on the concepts of illness and treatment and the sense of life and death.

Joseph Péaquin
Director, operator and producer, Joseph Péaquin was born in France in 1971. He graduated in Communications from the University of Grenoble with a major in Film Directing. After working in Paris and Turin, he devoted himself exclusively to filming documentaries in Valle d'Aosta. Since 1997, he has made nineteen documentaries and in 2003 he set up his own production house DOCFILM. His recent filmography includes A scuola di vitae (2008), Corrado Gex, il vit clair and il vit loin (2007).
