Laura is twelve years old and an only child, living with her farming family in a mountain dairy in the Swiss Alps. She spends most of her days alone, with only her dreams and concerns for company, along with a diary in which she writes down her impressions. However, everything is destined to change when a boy of the same age arrives, a companion who will stay with her throughout the long summer days. Together they will try to throw light on the legend of the girl of Änzi ravine, a steep rock face from which a young girl is said to have been thrown by her father when he discovered her secret love affair. By the end of the summer, Laura will have a different view of the world that surrounds her.
