Generations of knife grinders set off from the Val Rendena to seek their fortune around the world. England, and London in particular, was the favourite destination for this migration. The trade has been handed down from father to son for generations and these families now dominate the knife market in London. However, social relations have changed over the course of the years, along with the trade itself, which is nevertheless still based on knowledge that is the fruit of experience and a deep understanding of knives.

Patrick Grassi graduated from the University of Padua in languages and writing techniques. He works as a script writer and film director in Italy. He concentrates his research on the relationship between man and his environment, community and territory.
