FARMERS AND BEEKEEPERS, HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IS CHANGING THE MOUNTAINS FOR THOSE LIVING THERE

Con Zeudi e Vitor (allevatori), Emanuele Eccel (ricercatore), Davide Serona (allevatore), Paolo Calovi (agricoltore e presidente di CIA), Cristiano Zambotti (apicoltore CIA)

The mountains have changed compared to the second half of the 20th century, also due to anthropic activities at high altitude. For farmers and beekeepers there are new challenges and complications, from mass tourism to the reappearance of large carnivores, while drought is giving rise to momentous changes, with early transhumance and problems linked to feeding animals and thus also to their productivity. The mountains are changing at great speed and those who live in close contact with them are also changing, modifying their habits and behaviour. Bees in particular reflect the health of the environment where they live, and as has been said ''if the bee disappears from the face of the earth, man would only have four years to live.'' How are the human activities typical of the mountains altering with climate change and what are the lessons for the future?
