The south-west wall of Everest starts at an altitude of 7700 m, where the other high mountains stop. From that altitude, the peak is for the alpinists1154 metres away. The task described in the film was carried out by a group of English alpinists guided by Chris Bonington, but the conquest of the peak failed: after 8 weeks of struggle, at 600 metres from the peak, the climbers gave up, both for the effort and for the frost.
