After his plan of offering orphans a home and education fails, Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi decides to start all over again and so he spends six weeks in the Gurnigelbad Mountains in the Berne Canton to which the innkeeper Zehnder invited him. Here the active old tutor reviews his failure to set up a home for orphans in the Stans monastery. In the end the Swiss government has to admit that Pestalozzi has developed his own method and supports his work. But when the monastery becomes a military hospital for Austrian soldiers the children have to leave and go back to their former life based on charity.
