This documentary analyses the relationship between the painting of GiovanniSegantini and the places where he lived and worked, and permits a reassessment of the artist's personality, his life and his work on the basis ofrecents studies and publications. Celebrated at the end of the 19th century and subsequently all but forgotten by the art world, SEgantini has always remained a popular artist, as evidenced by the St. Moritz museum devoted to his work, though erroneously eulogized for heroic evocations of the Alps and pesant life. It is the tribulations of life, his howly origin, his difficult childhood, his chioce of a solitary existence and his quest for ever more lofty and pure mountainscapes, his untimely death on a summit that he had climbed for the purpose of painting, that shaped the character of his work, which has at least been recognized as one of the most important expression of European Symbolism.
