Winter. A village in the mountains. Andreas was nine years old when his beloved grandmother died. Since then he has refused to speak. The more the adults, his adoptive parents, the teachers and the priest try to force him, the more the child retires into his imaginery world. Andreas builds his own "snow village" in which the main characters is a snowman to whom Andreas confides everything and from whom he also receives some answers. Later we discover who is hiding behind this character and who is speaking. For years a tramp has come to the village to spend the winter there and for this reason he is called "the holiday-maker". He has had a very troubled life and now, for the first time he feels responsible for someone. In the cold and in the snowstorm, standing behind the snowman, he talks to Andreas and at the same time becomes his mirror, his interlocutor and discreet guide.
