Holidays, literally the summer "freshness", were a discovery of the Bolzano upper class who, in the late Middle Ages, escaped from the great heat in the valley. Wealthy traders and aristocratic families moved to Renon in the summer with all their servants. The local peasants called them "Frischleut" that is "people of the freshness" who, from the end of june to the beginning of Klobenstein and Soprabolzano. Until well into the 19th century their presence was unobserved, but things changed when the railway was built in 1907. The first world war marked the end of an epoch which the film describes in an accurate historical reconstruction.
