The fortieth anniversary of the first climb of K2 has been celebrated with many events organized in Italy and abroad: from Turin to Cortina, from Courmayeur to Tolmezzo, from Rome to Islamabad, with the significant partecipation of the public and mass media. To commemorate the climb, the RAI Valle d'Aosta, Frace 3 Montagne and Dream Time Movies society have produced a 56' video, with the support of RAI Videosapere, the National Museum of Mountains of Turin and the Milan Section of CAI.
Erich Abram, a member of the expedition, and a television crew follow the itinerary of the feat in Pakistan planned by Ardito Desio. Abram's story is interrupted with comment by Desio, Floreanini, Angelino, Gallotti, Lacedelli, Compagnoni and Cassin who, together with Bonetti is controversial for various reasons. The video is enhanced by scenes shot in Pakistan by Mario Fantin and directed by Marcello Baldi, of the official documentary of the expedition owned by the Italian Alpine Club whose technical and financial support was invaluable.
