The idea of climbing the 2,700 metre face of Epperly, a 4,780 metre high mountain in the Antarctica, came to the film maker and climber Romolo Nottaris during an expedition to Mt. Vinson in 1990. In 1995, with a film camera able to work in temperatures of 25 to 60°C below zero, Nottaris and Loretan returned to the Antarctica and in 15 days, for about 15 hours a day, they climbed the great wall.
