From the Alps to the Adriatic is the route followed by the «Claudia Augusta Altinate», one of the oldest Roman roads that runs from Quarto d’Altino near Venice, through Veneto, Trentino and the South Tyrol till the city of Ausburg in Bavaria. In the autumn of 1997 Marco Patton, a well-known marathon runner from Trentino, covered this important communications route between northern and southern Europe in 14 days. The feat of this barber-cum-marathon runner was an important opportunity to recall the historical and environmental significance of the Claudia Augusta route.
