A circuit of caverns is the scene of a scientific experiment lasting 23 days. A television network takes the opportunity to make a true-story show. Ralph Mettler, the person chosen to monitor the results of the experience, together with Meta Foerster, the TV program’s conductor, descend into the cave with the television team. Shortly after, an earthquake causes a landslide within the cave and the death of one of the operators. The rest of the team manages to escape, while Mattler and Foerster remain trapped inside. Technological resources and the most careful planning prove ineffective against natural events – the movie turns out to be the metaphor of a society too often too self-assured.
