Val Senales, a side valley of Val Venosta, became famous worldwide at the beginning of the nineties when the "Similaun mummy" was found. Prior to this Val Senales had only been mentioned in the press when a young hotelier committed suicide after going bankrupt. Afterwards he was classed a pioneer who had brought a new era of tourism to the the valley as he had constructed a cable car and several hotel establishments.
