Dietmar Keil, who has received many awards for is nature films, worked for four years in the southern areas of the Alps to make this monumental opera on the their beauty. He shot 60 km of 16 mm film to document, as never before, the story of the animals and plants. A whole year in the life of a family of marmots is one of the main themes, but there are also steinbocks, white hares and capercaillie. In spring the alpine meadows are filled with many coloured flowers. Unlike other films of the kind the pictures favour the larch woods and southern colours of the Alps, instead of views of the harsh landscapes of ice and rock. Dietmar Keil is an expert of lighting effects, especially with backlighting and the results can bee seen in the film, e.g. waterfalls. All together it is a unique work of its kind destined to last in time.
